The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 is the latest iteration of the brand’s book-style foldable phones. It’s a lot more durable, powerful, and efficient than the foldables of old, easily setting a high standard for any similar phone coming to the market. However, is this the perfect foldable phone for you?

You enjoy having a versatile, book-style foldable phone
Book-style foldables provide some much needed versatility with their large interior displays. In the case of the Galaxy Z Fold5, its 7.6” foldable Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel can act as a small tablet of sorts already, so you don’t have to worry about bringing two devices at once in your pocket. You also get fast scrolling thanks to its 120Hz refresh rate and nicer images with HDR10+ support.
Additionally, the Galaxy Z Fold5 is compatible with Samsung’s S Pen, making it a convenient option in case you want to quickly sign a digital document. There’s also Flex Mode for multitasking when you’ve got the phone sitting at an “L” shape on your table.
You want top of the line performance and great cameras
No compromises in performance here either. The Galaxy Z Fold5 comes with the same custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy that the Galaxy S23 line uses so you get a good gaming and multitasking experience even with the most demanding of apps.
On the camera side, you get a triple camera setup on the back, with a 50 MP Samsung GN3 Sensor and OIS as well as a 12 MP ultrawide and 10 MP telephoto for some impressive zooming capability. There’s also a 10 MP selfie camera inside the cover screen and an invisible 4 MP under-display camera sits behind the foldable screen for an uninterrupted experience.
You plan on keeping the phone for a longer time
The Galaxy Z Fold5 is also a great option if you plan on keeping your phone for a long time. In keeping with their policy, the Z Fold5 is also getting four years of OS updates and five years of security updates. This is still among the longest update policy for an Android phone in the market.

Don’t buy it if…
You’re not big into foldable phones
Of course, it’s understandable to still not be into foldable phones despite advancements in both hardware and software. If you still prefer the non-foldable Android phones, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra as well as its other variants are still available and just as capable as these top-of-the-line foldables.
You want a foldable phone but, smaller
Alternatively, you might be someone who prefers their foldable phone to become smaller rather than folding out into a full tablet size. In this case, you might want to check out the Galaxy Z Flip5, which folds down to a more manageable clamshell design.
You need a phone with expandable storage
While the Galaxy Z Fold5 already comes with massive internal storage capacity, starting at 256 GB and going all the way to 1 TB if you order directly from Samsung, you might still need more if you intend on storing plenty of games and HD movies on your phone.
If you’re willing to trade off flagship level performance and the foldable aspect of the phone, then the midrange Samsung Galaxy A54 or Galaxy A34 come with microSD card support while still being very capable day-to-day devices.
