Disney+ Streaming Rates Increase in Southeast Asia

Heads up to Disney fans! Disney+ is planning on increasing the prices of its plans throughout Southeast Asia, while also planning new tiers for anyone looking to get more out of their services. Subscribers reportedly caught wind of this via an SMS from the company, informing them about the upcoming change.

Subscription rates and changes

First up is the Disney+ Mobile Plan, which is now going to be called the Basic Plan. It now starts at PHP 249 per month or an annual fee of PHP 1,990 for all of the service’s available titles. However, you now get a resolution bump from HD (720p) to FHD (1080p) though you’re still limited to just your phone and tablet.

If you wish to bring your favorite shows to the big screen, you’ll have to upgrade to their premium plan, which now starts at PHP 519 (previously PHP 365) per month, or a PHP 4,190 annual fee. A very big increase to be fair but it still lets you use up to four screens at once while also watching your content in 4K.

According to the message, Disney+ will charge their subscribers this revised amount starting April 24, 2024, giving them more time to adjust. Or even cancel, if it’s not something you want to continue using due to the price changes.

What's on Disney+?

Disney+ is the main streaming service for you to check out your favorite shows from Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. Of course, it also has a number of other shows and original programming to really round out their catalog. Some of the most popular shows our Kimmunity recommended from the service include:

Shogun (2024)

Based on a 1975 novel by James Clavell, Shogun is a historical fiction show set in feudal Japan, following a group of European sailors who land in Japan just as the country reaches the brink of civil war, where they find themselves crossing paths with the resilient Lord Yoshi Toranaga.

Echo (2024)

The first of Marvel Studio’s show for 2024, Echo sees Maya Lopez, the deaf antiheroine from Hawkeye, and her ongoing conflict with her adoptive uncle, Wilson Fisk, leading her to return to her hometown in order to connect with her past.

Sketchbook (2022)

A solid documentary providing a behind-the-scenes look at how several of your beloved Disney characters are made. Sketchbook (2022) also offers a great look at the many talented artists behind the scenes, showcasing their story as well as how they ended up working for the studio.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2023)

Based on the hit novel by Rick Riordan, Percy Jackson and the Olympians are getting a second shot at Hollywood on the smaller screen. Twelve-year old demigod Percy Jackson is accused by Zeus of stealing the thunderbolt and now has to get in touch with his roots in order to find it before a full-blown war between the gods erupts.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch (2021)

Centered on a group of elite clone troopers known as Clone Force 99, Star Wars: The Bad Batch follows the adventures of exploits of the troopers who resisted the influence of the infamous Order 66 as the fledgling Galactic Empire starts hunting them down.
