Leaked Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 Special Edition Promises Better Crease Control

Samsung doesn’t appear to be done with their 2024 foldable devices.

Leaks from X (formerly known as Twitter) user Ice Universe have shown off an upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 Special Edition; a slimmer, thinner variant of the flagship foldable, due to come out sometime this October 2024. With a few caveats of course.

With that said though, what other details have come out regarding this foldable phone? And is it any different from the flagship we already have?

A Thinner Design

According to available leaks, this Special Edition of the Galaxy Z Fold6 will clock in at just 4.9mm when fully unfolded and 10.6mm when it’s all closed up. It’s quite a noticeable change from the original Galaxy Z Fold6, which is around 12.1mm thin when it’s all closed up.

Remember that this special edition model is thin when compared to previous Galaxy foldables. Competition like the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is pretty similar being 10.5mm thin when closed up, while the Honor Magic V3 just blows past both, sitting at just 9.2mm thin

That said, this should come as a good option for those who prefer to stick with Samsung and are just waiting for their foldable phones to become much thinner and compact before buying. After all, Samsung does promise up to 7 years of OS and security updates for these phones, theoretically making them last longer than their current competition.

Eliminating the Foldable Crease

In addition to the slimmer form factor, the new Galaxy Z Fold6 Special Edition will also address the “crease” problem; that jarring line you might see once you’ve got the phone all unfolded. Sure, it’s not completely eliminated just yet but if leaks are correct, then it should be even less noticeable than the standard model.

Other Upgrades

It’s also rumored that Samsung is making some big changes with the camera system for this Special Edition foldable. Its under-display camera might get bumped up to 5MP while the main camera is rumored to get bumped to a full 200MP shooter.

There’s also talks of a much bigger cover screen and internal display of course but aside from that, performance should be quite similar. It’s still going to use the same custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy and even the same battery size.

Of course, these are just rumors for now and we’ll have to wait until the phone is officially revealed to verify all of this.

Limited Availability

Despite all this, it’s probably best to temper our expectations. Initial leaks also point at a limited release, with the Special Edition model supposedly only releasing in South Korea and China for now. Possibly starting in places where they face the most competition.

Nonetheless, we’re definitely interested and we’ll definitely keep an eye on further news. There’s always room for thinner foldable phones here at Kimstore after all!
