March 2025’s Pixel Drops are Here!
The first Pixel drop of 2025 is here, with Google promising to bring even more features and improvements to your device. Now, a lot of these appear to center on its Gemini AI features, including Gemini Live, which can now handle over 45 languages. This now empowers Google to bring a bulk of these outside of the US, starting with territories like Germany and Japan.
Still, while most of these features are quite useful and even exciting depending on how you look at it, there is a common throughline unifying all of these updates. One that’s well worth considering in our opinion.
Scam Detection with on-device AI
Scam Detection gets a boost in performance with the aid of Gemini Nano, helping protect you from fraudulent calls while keeping your conversations private. How this works is that the AI will supposedly analyze speech patterns in calls, looking for prompts typically used by scammers in real time.
This will also work in Google Messages, with the AI analyzing common prompts used in fraudulent messages, looking to nip the problem early. It provides real time warnings too, making it easier for you to block and report the conversation as it happens.
Now, the Voice Call aspect of this does require the newer Pixel 9 and up for now but the text and messages-based aspect should be good for the Pixel 6 onwards.
Stream like a Pro with Connected Cameras
Okay, here’s something for vloggers and content creators out there. This month’s Pixel drops now allows Pixel 9 users to connect the phone to external cameras like a GoPro while also switching between them seamlessly for added flexibility.
It’s even got a good roster of apps it already supports including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, and even YouTube. You also don’t need to go for the more expensive Pixel 9 Pro XL in order to access these but, there’s no word on whether this capability will make its way to older Pixels.
Pixel Studio can now generate humans
Back when Pixel Studio was announced for the Pixel 9 lineup, its image generation capabilities were still limited as it couldn’t create people. Now, the AI can finally generate humans, with Google promising that it’s implemented enough safeguards against abuse. Only available for the Pixel 9 lineup for now though.

Build a better collection with Pixel Screenshots!
Pixel Screenshots have already been proven to be useful when it comes to sorting through your old captures but now, it's now giving you a “Suggestions” carousel. You know, just in case you’re not quite sure how to sort the myriad of screenshots you’ve taken over the years.
You can even sync it with your work profile, if you have one. That way, you can easily sort through your receipts, expense reports, and other work-related screen captures for easier navigation.
But again, this seems to be limited to the Pixel 9 series, mainly the Pixel 9, the 9 Pro, and the Pixel 9 Pro XL. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold for some reason, is currently left out, sitting there along with other last-gen Pixel products.
Dual-Screen Camera Mode for First-Gen Pixel Fold
That doesn’t mean that Google’s done nothing for their foldables though. Dual-Screen Camera Mode is now available for the first-gen Pixel Fold phone for one, finally allowing your photography subjects to get a preview of how they’re going to look in the photo.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold even pushes further as it now supports the Add Me preview on the outer screen, making it easier for you to align all your shots before dropping in the extra subject.
Is it time to upgrade?
Right now, the only restriction we’ve seen with this crop of updates is that they all seem to be restricted to the latest Pixel 9 series. Understandable, considering the increased RAM, processing power and the latest OS these phones are already sporting. That doesn’t mean it’s never going to come to the older models of course; there could just be a delay in implementing them for these last-gen Pixels.
But, it remains to be seen if this is really the case. For now, if you want the latest Pixel and Gemini experience on your Android, then you definitely want to spring for the phone that lets you “experience Android the way it’s intended”, as per Google’s own claim.
