No Purchase Required: Samsung Expands its Trade-In Program Year Round!

First their planned subscription service, now a change to their Trade-In program. We think it’s quite commendable to see the changes Samsung’s doing for accessibility. The new Galaxy Trade-In Program Samsung announced in their Newsroom should also be a big help in boosting the value of their prized Galaxy devices in the long-term; all the while helping prospective upgraders save a fair bit of money.

Of course, Samsung’s not the only one with a trade-in program for their smartphones. So how is this new version of the plan supposed to stand out? There’s two main ways:

No purchase required!

First, is that you no longer need to make a purchase on their website or through the company’s app for the trade-in option to even appear for customers. You can now trade-in your Galaxy smartphone for cash right away if you want.

Second is that this will now be made available year-round compared to the previous implementation of the program. Back then, users were only eligible during specific periods such as the launch of a new product line like the S25 flagships this upcoming Galaxy Unpacked.

A lot of the process still applies of course. Samsung will have to evaluate the condition of the device before giving you a quote for how much you can receive. The program will also be managed by Likewize; a company specializing in warranties, repairs, and of course, trade-ins.

Some limitations

There are some limitations to the trade-in program however, as anyone who’s used it can attest.

For one, trade-in is only available for Galaxy S20 series, all the way to the Galaxy S23 lineup (we’ll probably see the S24 be eligible once the S25 releases). As for foldables, you can trade-in phones starting from the Z Flip3 and Z Fold3, all the way to the Z Flip5 and Z Fold5. They don’t seem to be taking in anything too recent just yet.

No news as to whether midrange smartphones like the Galaxy A55 will be accepted or even their surprisingly popular FE phones.

Samsung can also be quite strict when it comes to receiving devices for trade-in, with those experienced with the process recommending you take a lot of documentation of your device, including the time you pack and ship the item out if you’re going that route.

Is this program coming soon?

Well, Samsung is starting this program around this time in South Korea and France first. Other territories are set to follow sometime this year so us Philippine users may have to wait a bit. Still, the lack of a purchase requirement should be a big boon for anyone looking for a great deal outside of typical retailers.
