Poco F6 Launches; Affordable Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 for Gamers!
Poco has launched their latest Poco F6 and Poco F6 Pro in an event in Dubai, with the company aiming the phone directly at serious gamers looking for top-tier specs at more affordable prices. As such, flagship processors, gorgeous displays, and even fast charging are expected but, the two phones do differ in ways that leaves us a little confused.
To get started though, we’ve decided to take a look at the new smartphones’ best features to see how they compare not just to other smartphones, but also to each other:
Top Gaming Performance at Competitive Prices
“Elite performance has always been our top priority,” says Poco’s Global Head of Product Marketing Angus Ng, promising a smooth experience on games like Genshin Impact and PUBG Mobile, with the latter even being touted for a 120FPS mode.
As such, the bulk of the phone’s hardware is really about its display and chipset and it’s here where the Poco F6 and the Poco F6 Pro vastly differ from each other.
For starters, the Poco F6 comes with the newer Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processors while the Poco F6 Pro is coming with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. On paper, it sounds weird for the Pro model to get an older chipset but the newer Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 isn’t anything like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 non-S found in flagships like the Xiaomi 14.
Think of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 as like a slightly pared down version of that flagship chip. It gets a newer CPU and NPU, but comes with a weaker GPU in the form of the Adreno 735 compared to the Adreno 740 in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. So games running off the GPU will be better on the Poco F6 Pro but the F6 should theoretically boast better efficiency and AI in other apps. Either way, both phones should still deliver a smooth overall experience.
Both also come with 120Hz AMOLED displays but the resolution differs. The Poco F6 comes with a 2712 x 1220 resolution display, while the Poco F6 Pro gets up to 3200 x 1440 QHD.
These smartphones both run Xiaomi’s HyperOS however, with its own Poco skin and UI on top. Longtime Xiaomi fans and users should find the interface quite familiar once they have the phones on hand.
What About Cameras?
Cameras are often one area where “gaming” phones compromise on and…the Poco F6 line is no exception to the rule sadly. The Poco F6 only comes with a dual camera setup, with a 50MP main and 8MP ultrawide. Same deal with the Poco F6 Pro only that one comes with a 2MP macro camera. Both phones’ main cameras do come with OIS however, making them a competent enough snapper for day-to-day use.
Strangely enough, the Poco F6 sports a bigger selfie camera, with a 20MP snapper compared to the 16MP one on the Poco F6 Pro. The F6 also supports something called ‘Contactless Gestures’, allowing you to wave your hand in front of the selfie camera in order to reply to calls, control your playlist, and even look through documents. Odd how the setting doesn’t appear to be on the F6 Pro.

Charging and Connectivity
We all know heavy gaming sessions will drain a phone fast and thankfully, Poco has decided to pack in fast charging capabilities for both phones. The Poco F6 gets up to 90W fast charging on its included charger while the F6 Pro gets a much faster 120W charger in the box, replenishing its full charge in less than an hour.
For connectivity, the Poco F6 packs Wifi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4. Oddly enough, the Poco F6 Pro has WiFi 7 capabilities but with just Bluetooth 5.3. Not a big difference in day-to-day use in our opinion but just another bit of oddity when it comes to these two devices.
