Redmagic 9 Pro Lands in the Philippines

Enter the age of more refined gaming phones as the Redmagic 9 Pro finally releases here in the Philippines! Featuring its suite of gaming-oriented features, excellent flagship performance, and a new design that’s sure to delight users nationwide, let’s take a closer look at what we’re getting from this excellent addition to the line:

Fantastically Flat

Like the Redmagic 8 Pro before it, the Redmagic 9 Pro arrives in this box-like design though this time, with an even more subdued gaming aesthetic. That styling is there of course, with the near transparent glass backs, stylized lines, and even some RGB effects from the cutouts around the phone’s chassis. That’s not what really stands out about the phone’s design though.

Rather than having a small bump, the Redmagic 9 Pro’s cameras sit completely flush with the phone’s chassis, leading to a delightfully flat silhouette overall. You can set it on a desk with the screen facing up and you don’t have to worry about the phone wobbling. Comfier in the pocket too!

Apart from that, you get the usual metal and glass construction (albeit, not Corning Gorilla Glass) with the usual bells and whistles. USB-C for charging, stereo speakers, vents for the cooling fans, and thankfully, a 3.5mm headphone jack which is still a bit better for rhythm games in our experience.

If there’s one thing we think some people may not like about this is its size. It’s a surprisingly big and hefty phone and you will definitely feel it. Do note that you do get a beefy 6,500mAh battery in there, which should help your phone last longer during day-to-day use.

Excellent gaming performance all-around

Gaming performance is very solid, given the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3; the same chipset used by high-end flagships like the Galaxy S24 Ultra or the Xiaomi 14. This is also paired with an improved cooling solution, heatsink, and a fan to help with temperatures under heavy load.

You can basically expect 60FPS or more (in games that support it) even when using the highest settings in games like Genshin Impact, Asphalt 9, COD: Mobile, and of course, Mobile Legends. And with the phone’s massive battery, you can definitely play for much longer.

Of course, that performance may not matter much if your screen cannot back display it nicely, but in this case, the Redmagic 9 Pro truly delivers with an unobstructed OLED display, thanks to its under-display selfie camera. And yes, you do get 120Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling.

Solid camera specs

While cameras have always been the Achilles' heel of the previous Redmagic phones, things appear to be improving on this front in recent years. For the Redmagic 9 Pro, you get a triple camera setup consisting of a 50 MP main camera complete with OIS, a 50 MP ultrawide, and a 2 MP macro camera.

Both the 50 MP main and ultrawide cameras use Samsung sensors, allowing you to use them to take excellent photos with great colors and sharpness. The macro camera does get focus peaking, allowing you to hit the right focusing distance for better shots.

Selfie shots are a bit softer, being an under-display sensor. Still, it’s a big improvement compared to the past generations like the Redmagic 7 Pro though, not on par with other flagships just yet. Personally though, we think this is fine since I assume anyone buying a gaming phone would prefer the uninterrupted display.

Three color choices:

The Redmagic 9 Pro is available in three different color variants. Those who want a clean look may want into the silvery-white “Snowfall” as well as the metallic, almost flat in some angles “Sleet”. Then there’s the transparent black “Cyclone” color with gold trims and font which really highlights the gamer aesthetic.

The phone is available with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage or a bigger variant with 16GB RAM and 512 GB of storage which should be plenty for most of your games. Unfortunately, neither variant is said to come with SD card compatibility so those who play plenty of heavy games may want to opt for the bigger model.

We’ll definitely let you know when we can get the Redmagic 9 Pro available here in our stores, for the best prices of course!
