Samsung Galaxy A16 5G: 6 Years of Support!
New details about Samsung’s entry-level Galaxy A16 5G has just surfaced, based on a listing from the company’s Dutch website. And while the hardware specs and performance doesn’t appear to be too different from what came before, there was one particular aspect of the phone that caught us by surprise:
Samsung has announced that they will be supporting the upcoming Galaxy A16 5G for a whopping six years.
Long Support for the Entry-Level
The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G is definitely the first, cheap Android to be promised a full six years of OS and security updates. For reference, that’s even longer than iPhones which usually promise five years. This should allow new users to get new features and improvements all the way to 2030!
It’s definitely a welcome development, especially as people start keeping their phones for much longer, even if they are budget models.
This could also lead to longer software support for Samsung’s upcoming midrangers like the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36, especially since these midrange models are starting to approach feature and performance parity with the latest flagships.
Performance and Display
In addition to their software support, Samsung has also revealed a few more details regarding the specs of this budget smartphone. For starters, it’s stated to have a different chipset depending on the region, with European markets getting the Exynos 1330 (Same as the older Galaxy A14) or the Dimensity 6400 for places like India or Thailand.
This will be paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Users with more files will also appreciate the microSD card support up to 1.5 TB.
As for the display, the phone will feature a nice, 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. So rest assured, your photos, videos, and games look vibrant and colorful, while the day-to-day scrolling and use should feel silky smooth.
As expected, the phone’s coming with a 5,000mAh battery, ensuring you’ve got enough juice to last the whole day.

A Surprising Omission
The overall phone is also much slimmer, coming in at only 7.9mm thick (excluding the camera modules). This makes it much, much thinner than its predecessors and we can see fans of affordable thin and light phones gravitate to this one.
What’s a little more unfortunate though is that the reduced thickness means Samsung has also omitted the headphone jack from this budget model too; which is unfortunate as the previous Galaxy A35 nor the Galaxy A55 had it.
You’ll definitely need an adapter in order to plug in your tunes with this one. Or a pair of good wireless earphones, such as Samsung’s own Galaxy Buds, which you can find here at Kimstore.
Colors and Availability
The Galaxy A16 5G will be shipping with One UI 6.1 out of the box. The phone itself will be available in colors like Midnight Blue, Gray, and even Turquoise. No word yet on the official pricing and release date here in the Philippines though.
In the meantime, stay tuned as we await this budget Android’s official release to see how it stacks up against the competition in the entry-level space.
