Samsung Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 Launches on March 18

It’s finally official! After a month of leaks and speculation, both the Samsung Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 are revealed and announced for a March 18 launch date here in the Philippines. Both phones are part of the brand’s highly successful A-series midrangers, coming with a design that mirrors that of their latest flagship models.

Of course, the official launch itself is still a couple of months away. In the meantime, let’s review what we know about these latest models, in case you’re thinking of getting a new midrange phone this year:

Samsung Galaxy A55 - Up to 12GB of RAM!

The Samsung Galaxy A55 comes as a more incremental upgrade to the previous Galaxy A54. Indeed, the two almost look quite similar when compared from afar; the Galaxy A55 just stands out courtesy of its larger 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display as well as the small “Key Island” that houses its volume and power buttons.

As such, the differences once again, lie underneath the hood. You now get the Exynos 1480 equipped with an AMD GPU rather than the Mali GPU on the Exynos 1380. We’ll have to wait and see what kind of performance and efficiency improvements these bring to gaming as well as other apps.

Surprisingly, the Samsung Galaxy A55 can be outfitted with up to 12GB of RAM, and these aren’t extended RAM features either. That puts it ahead of its own flagship Galaxy S24 even though this bigger memory variant is only available in a few select regions.

Starting at PHP 24,990 for an 8GB + 256GB variant, the Samsung Galaxy A55 sits at the more premium end of most midrange smartphones. Those who are looking for a slightly more affordable option may want to look at the Galaxy A35 instead!

Samsung Galaxy A35: Even closer than before!

Similar to its more expensive midrange sibling, the Galaxy A35 comes with a 6.6-inch, 120Hz Super AMOLED display. And with the A35 switching to an “Infinity-O” cutout for its selfie camera, rather than the “Infinity-U” display on the Galaxy A34, the lines are blurrier than ever before.

Once again, the differences lie underneath that glass and plastic. The Galaxy A35 will come equipped with last year’s Exynos 1380; which is still a rather capable chipset for basic use and even some gaming on the side.

The Galaxy A35 starts with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. There are talks of a cheaper variant with just 6GB of RAM though like with the 12GB variant of the Galaxy A55, this appears to be region-dependent as well.

Nonetheless, the phone is still overall cheaper. The Galaxy A35 will retail for PHP 20,990 once it launches on March 18 here in the Philippines.

No AI, no extended software support

Unfortunately, despite shipping with One UI 6.1 as the S-series flagships, both the Samsung Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 won’t be coming with the latest Galaxy AI features. Their chipsets may not be as powerful or as compatible with the programs like the Exynos 2400 or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the S24 line.

Additionally, wallpaper support for Always On Display won’t be coming to the latest Galaxy A-series either, nor is it coming to other S-series phones prior to the S24 line (meaning the Galaxy S23 devices may not be getting it too). This is possibly due to a difference in displays used in these phones.

And as expected, neither of these A-series smartphones will be getting the 7 years of updates given to the Galaxy S24 series. Both the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 will get the same 4 years of OS updates and 5 years of security updates given to Samsung’s midrange phones.
