Samsung Galaxy S24 FE: What’s New and What’s the Same?

In just a few weeks, we’ll supposedly get more official details about Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S24 FE. After all, Samsung’s FE line is usually meant to deliver some of its latest hardware to a more affordable, midrange segment, usually by making small compromises in things like the camera lenses or sometimes, the bezels on the display.

There’s plenty to look forward to and get excited about and fortunately, we’ve got a deluge of leaks that supposedly show what we can expect from this handset. And we’ll be taking a look at all of them here:

Familiar Design; More Vibrant Colors

Based on the initial leaks and speculation on sites like Android Headline, this appears to be the case with the Galaxy S24 FE. There’s going to be a material change from glass to plastic of course, leading to slightly thicker bezels on the FE. Otherwise, the two phones are near indistinguishable.

Especially when viewed from the back as the FE is said to come with the same set as the one on the Galaxy S24. Meaning, you get a 50MP primary, a 12MP ultrawide, and an 8MP telephoto with 3x Optical Zoom. Its selfie camera is a modest 10MP sensor.

On the flip side, we did see a number of cool color options for this upcoming phone. There’s the usual black and gray of course, but renders also show options like yellow, light green, and light blue. All of which we’ve seen used in previous lines of course.

An Underclocked Exynos

Performance is one aspect that appears to be a downgrade on paper. Reports point to the Galaxy S24 FE shipping with the Exynos 2400 chipset and while we have seen decent results in both performance and battery life from this inside the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus, the chip in the FE model is technically a little underclocked which could lead to some performance differences.

It‘s only the main Cortex-X4 core however, so perhaps the performance difference wouldn’t be too big. Any differences could also just be due to initial pre-production differences or perhaps an attempt at better cooling on the phone.

And hey, it should mean that it’s still compatible with the latest Galaxy AI features such as Live Translate, Interpreter, Generative Edits, and more. It’s got the chipset and capacity for it in case you’re interested in trying out these AI features.

Still the Same Charging Speeds

One aspect we wish would’ve been improved is the charging speed. With Samsung already shipping out their own 45W charger, it’s kind of disappointing to see the Galaxy S24 FE still get stuck with just 25W. We suppose it’s similar to the previous Galaxy S23 FE in that regard though.

Still, 25W is starting to feel a little slow compared to what the competition like Redmi is bringing, with up to 67W charging speed. Sometimes even 120W. It also means the phone’s unable to take advantage of some of the best phone chargers you can buy.
