The M4 Macbook Air is Now Official!
Apple’s thin and light laptop has finally received its M4 chip upgrade!
The M4 Macbook Air is looking like a good value improvement, sporting an upgraded camera, higher performance with the latest chip, and enhanced external display support. All of it while retaining the ever popular thin, light, and fanless design!
Let’s take a look at the biggest things that’ve changed with this M4-based refresh, starting with what we think are the biggest changes:
Double the Memory, Cheaper Price!
Let’s start with some big news. First off, the base memory has now been doubled, with the M4 Macbook Air starting with 16GB of unified memory right off the bat. It’s definitely for its new Apple Intelligence features, which does benefit from the increase whether on Macbook or its iPhone 16 Pro.
Despite that, the M4 Macbook Air will come in much cheaper than its predecessor was on launch. It starts at $999 and can even go down to as low as $899 for education purchases. It’s now perfectly positioned to be the device to choose for those buying a Mac for the first time, or for anyone looking to upgrade their older Macbook Air.
Performance improvements with M4!
Apple’s new M4 chip is a powerful 10-core CPU with options to get up to a 10-core GPU. Apple claims that it should be 2x faster than the M1 Macbook Air model and even 23x faster than the now, very old Intel-based Macbook Air, like we’ve got pictured above. The Neural Engine, used to accelerate AI-related tasks, is now 3x faster than the M1 as well.
This translates to some efficiency improvements too. The M4 chip is reportedly capable of lasting up to 18 hours on a single charge, easily lasting the entire school or work day with plenty of battery to spare under normal use.
Speaking of AI shenanigans, Apple Intelligence runs very well on the device, giving you access to features like Image Playground, Genmoji, and the whole host of Writing Tools it’s already launched earlier. Users may also opt-in to ChatGPT integration in case they prefer OpenAI’s solution. Processing is done on device regardless and OpenAI will reportedly not store requests made from the Macbook Air.

Center Stage Camera with Desk View
Camera has received a significant bump in megapixels compared to the M2 variant, going from a mere 4MP to 12MP shooter that captures better details. It retains its Center Stage feature, which keeps you centered in the shot, even as you move around during say, a remote presentation or report.
Additionally, there’s Desk View which allows the Macbook Air to display both its user and a top-down view of their desk. It’s perfect if you’ve got something like handwritten notes or a prototype product you want to show off during a meeting. And yeah, all of this can easily translate to casual use and leisure too.
Refreshing New Hue; Gorgeous Displays
The M4 Macbook Air will also be available in a new color as instead of the old Space Gray, we now get a metallic Sky Blue, which even extends to its MagSafe charging cable. Other colors include Midnight, Starlight, and Silver; colors we’re definitely familiar with.
It’s going to be available in both 13-inch and 15-inch models, allowing you to choose whether you want the most portable form factor or a more standard display space that makes for better multitasking. Resolution is equally good on either sizes as well.
But in case you still find the Macbook Air display a little too small for your liking, you can always connect it to an external display. Both M4 models now easily support up to two 6K external displays, making multitasking across multiple apps much easier!
All-in-all, it’s a very attractive option for anyone looking for an ultraportable thin and light laptop for productive and creative tasks. We’ll definitely keep a sharp eye on when we can get these items here at Kimstore!
