Tired of Spam Emails? Gmail May Finally Have the Answer!

Sick of spam mail clogging up your inbox?

According to a report from Android Authority, strings found in a recent beta version of Google Play Services could point to a new “shielded email” feature, which finally allows users to create email aliases they could use for all sorts of things.

Of course, this is all tentative as Google hasn’t announced an official release date for the feature, nor its existence for that matter. Still, we’re at least able to see details regarding the feature here.

A Balm for Privacy Concerns?

With so many websites and platforms requiring users to sign up with an email address, people’s inboxes are easily filled up with spam, not to mention cyber attacks like phishing emails. With Shielded Email, users can sign up for said services with an alias, allowing them to use that alias to receive and reply without revealing their main email address.

In a way, it’s similar to Apple iCloud’s ‘Hide My Email’ functionality, announced back in June 2021. In Google’s case, it appears to be integrated within Android’s autofill and Google Password manager, making it easier for their users to try out.

It’s a big step up for Google’s steps towards addressing spam email. While Gmail has been shown to be quite accurate at filtering out spam, this new “Shielded Email” can prevent those from reaching the user entirely. A smooth and clean inbox is just a few settings tweaks away!

Some Questions About Implementation

Of course, there are some questions regarding this new feature even if it isn’t official just yet. For starters, will it be something users have to pay for? After all, Apple’s Hide My Email required a subscription to iCloud+ in order to use. It could even be a means of encouraging people to sign up for Google One.

Additionally, the feature may initially be limited to just Gmail’s Android users. There’s no immediate news whether it’s coming to the desktop version or Chrome in the future.

Enjoy a Secure Android Experience with Google Pixel!

Google is no stranger to keeping things secure for their users; or at least trying to. Back in October, we took a look at the latest round of theft detection features for Android phones, helping you keep your data secure in the event your phone is stolen.

There’s also their AI-powered Scam Detection tool built into Android, which blocks suspicious activities and numbers from calling you in the first place. Note that it’s off by default and you’ll have to turn it on yourself in the Phone’s app settings.

And while these features will eventually roll out to any Android device, Google’s very own Pixel series should get all of them first. Sure, there’s some growing pains to iron out but, it can be very useful for anyone looking to secure their device early.

If they keep this up, Google’s Pixel lineup may just be the phone to pick if you value security and privacy for your phone, and the data it contains. Luckily for you, we’ve got plenty of them available here at Kimstore, from older models like the Pixel 7A, all the way to the more recent Pixel 9!
