Two New iPad Releases: Which One is For You?

Two brand new iPads, both of them coming sometime this March. You’ve got the 11th Gen iPad on one corner, which has been upgraded to use the A16 chip and 128GB of starting storage, ready to take on all the usual requirements for this year. Then there’s probably the more hyped iPad Air, which is reportedly built for the Apple Intelligence on top of day-to-day iPad use.

And even though we don’t have them yet, you’re probably wondering, how are they different? Which one should I get?

Lack of Intelligence

There’s no doubt that the new iPad Air will be the more powerful of the two tablets. After all, the M3 is technically the same chip architecture used in bigger devices like their Macbook Airs and Macbook Pros, making it much more powerful and capable than an older smartphone chip like the A16.

It’s still kind of weird that they’ve decided to stick with the M3 for this new iPad Air however, considering the M4 iPad Pro is already sporting their latest chips. Perhaps even two generations behind should the brand debut new M5 chips this year.

And while we’re confident in this new iPad’s abilities to still take on your day-to-day tasks (the A16 is used in the still performant iPhone 15 and 15 Plus after all), it does mean it misses out on the latest Apple Intelligence features. So if you’re interested in those (even if it’s just for the smarter Siri), the iPad Air or even the iPad Mini 7 might be the more appealing buy.

On the other hand, those who don’t care about the AI features can still enjoy a competent tablet for a more accessible price. Additionally, this 11th Gen iPad will still support the first-generation Apple Pencil. Doesn’t support the fancy new Apple Pencil Pro however.

Size and Other Similarities

In terms of their physical form, the two tablets are rather similar. At least for one variant of the M3 iPad Air. Both use an 11” Liquid Retina display compatible with True Tone, meaning your apps and photos will appear more natural regardless of the ambient lighting around you. Same 2360 x 1640p resolution and 500 nits brightness as well.

Only the iPad Air M3 comes with P3 Wide Color though, leading to much better color range than the 11th Gen. It’s also the only one that has the anti-reflective coating for reducing glare under bright lights, which could lead to it appearing brighter at times.

The iPad Air M3 also comes in a 13” version though, if you need the additional screen space and the increased resolution.

Cameras are kind of similar between the two models. Of course, you probably shouldn’t expect these to match the ones on say, a base iPhone 15 or even an earlier phone. Still, they should prove sufficient for taking photos of documents or video conferencing on a much wider screen.

Aside from size, the available colors are also different. The 11th-Gen iPad is available in Silver, Blue, Yellow, and Pink, similar to the pink 10th gen we’ve pictured above. All vibrant colors that really catch the eye. On the other hand, the M3 iPad Air comes in a more muted, titanium-ish Blue, Purple, Starlight, and of course, Space Gray.

So which one is for me?

For us, we think the M3 iPad Air is definitely the nicer option. For one, you get stronger performance courtesy of the stronger chipset, even if you don’t care about the different AI features. Especially since you do get the option of a 13” display in case you need a little bit more screen space for your apps and tasks.

Of course, if you just need a more affordable tablet for day-to-day use, don’t care about Apple Intelligence, and would like a vibrant color to go with all of your devices, then it’s perfectly fine to opt for the 11th Gen iPad instead.

But of course, with new releases also comes discounts for the older generation gadgets, many of which are still impressive performers even today. Not to mention the new M4 iPad Pro, which we now have in stock here at Kimstore, offering you all of the power and performance you’ll need.

Otherwise, we still have discounted prices for the previous gen iPads like the iPad Air equipped with the M2 chip like the exact tablet we’ve got on the header. Sure, it’s about to be discontinued by Apple now that the M3 is available but it’s going to take a while for the stock to fly off the shelves completely.
