Google Pixel 8a Finally Makes an Appearance!
Excited for a new Android experience? Well, before we make way for the upcoming Pixel 9 series of smartphones, we still have one more device from the Pixel 8 line to go through. A new video from X (site formerly known as Twitter) user @MysterLupin has popped up online, which seems to show the more budget-oriented Pixel 8A in its full glory.
With this, let’s take a look at some of the other leaks surrounding this upcoming smartphone release:
A familiar design
To no one’s surprise, the Pixel 8A shares the same design language as its other predecessors, as well as its more premium siblings in the line. In fact, the green color shown in the video makes it look similar to the much older Pixel 6A. The camera strip retains its metallic sheen in contrast to the glass back albeit, in a color similar to the phone’s main body.
The sides of the phone don’t appear to be changed as much. The volume rockers and power button are all in their usual spots; no raised island or anything. The USB-C port stays at the bottom, which is said to feature Displayport support.
As for the smartphone’s size, it seems to fall much closer to the base Pixel 8. Fans of more compact phones looking to upgrade from their older Pixel devices may find this a compelling option, at least if you don’t care about the improved cameras on the Pixel 8 Pro.
Possible display upgrades?
The phone was still sealed in the video so we couldn’t get a good glance at the phone’s display just yet. (We don’t imagine it looking too different though) Initial leaks do point to an improved OLED display, being bumped up to 120Hz and brightness up to 1,400 nits but, no official numbers yet.
If these numbers do turn out to be true, then this should definitely be a big upgrade over the Pixel 7A, which has a 90Hz OLED screen that maxes out at around 1,000 nits in direct sunlight. Not quite the same as the base Pixel 8’s 2,000 nits brightness though.

Under the hood
If we’re following the usual Pixel conventions with the Pixel 8A, then we’re most likely going to get the brand’s own Tensor G3 chip powering the phone. And with the Pixel 8 now confirmed to be getting the brand’s promised AI features, it’s very likely that we’ll be seeing those on the Pixel 8A as well.
RAM and storage should be pretty similar with the base Pixel 8, with 8 GB of RAM paired with 128GB or 256GB of storage on the upper end. More than enough to fit your day-to-day apps. Good for photo processing as well though details regarding the Pixel 8A’s camera capabilities are still sparse as of now.
Pixel 8A: Price and release
Pricing’s still a little unclear regarding Google’s upcoming Android. There was a substantial price increase between the Pixel 7 and the Pixel 8 series and this trend is expected to continue with the Pixel 8A. The Pixel 8A is rumored to launch at around 518 USD for the 128GB variant (roughly PHP 30,000 here in the Philippines).
Nonetheless, we’ll definitely keep an eye out for the Pixel 8A’s official pricing and release here. In the meantime, make sure to check out our latest deals on the best Google phones and accessories only here at your most trusted online gadget store!
