Time for M4? New Macbook Pro with Apple’s M4 Coming Soon!

Update: Apple has announced their event for October 28!

Another Apple event already? While there’s no word as to whether we’re getting an actual event for them, leaks all point to Apple gearing up to release the new M4 Macbook lineup within this month! The M4 Macbook Pro is supposed to be the official herald to Apple’s M4 transition, bringing in some much needed changes to the whole line.

Information comes courtesy of Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and we’ve taken a look at some of these key features and announcements in our writeup here:

Brand New M4 Chips

Technically, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Apple’s M4 chip. It already debuted in the new iPad Pro sometime back in May, so we do have an idea of how capable it can be. It’s technically just the base M4 however, and this upcoming Macbook release may come with the debut of the possible M4 Pro and M4 Max chips; built to take on heavier tasks on much bigger devices.

But while we know that they’re going to be much faster and more capable than the chips that preceded them, we don’t have any specific details on clock speeds and core counts just yet. It will be built on TSMC’s 3nm process however, so we’re very excited to see how much it improves on performance and efficiency.

16GB RAM as Standard

This upcoming M4 Macbook Pro could also see its RAM bumped up to 16GB, reports say, due to Apple Intelligence features. It’s a nice upgrade of course, even if you don’t intend to make use of its AI suite, especially when it comes to your other creative tasks.

Apple is reportedly upgrading the memory on an upcoming Mac Mini and iMac release too. A good upgrade from the base 8GB their devices usually start with.

New Wi-Fi 7

Like the iPhone 16 lineup, the M4 Macbook is likely to adopt the new Wi-Fi 7 standard, capable of reaching speeds of up to 46Gbps. Way, way faster than Wi-Fi 6E. It can also operate on 320Mhz channels, cutting down interference and signal congestion for a much more consistent experience.

Do note that you’ll need a router that’s capable of Wi-Fi 7 in order to take advantage of this increased speed. But if you do upgrade, then at least that capability is already waiting for you.

A Redesigned Mac Mini

Aside from the Macbook Pro, leaks of a redesigned Mac Mini have also come out. This new model is said to be much slimmer, around the size of an Apple TV, making for easier portability. It’s also heading straight for the M4, skipping M3 entirely.

However, leaks also point to this new Mac Mini skipping USB-A ports altogether. It’s all USB-C according to reports, so you better have those USB-C devices and peripherals ready if this is an upgrading you’re considering.

Even a new iMac?

Rounding out the list of new devices is a brand new M4 iMac; a direct upgrade to the M3 variant released last time. It’s a 24-inch model meant to serve as an entry level product of sorts however, as all reports point to it coming with the base M4 chip only.

Additionally, there doesn’t seem to be any major design changes to the appearance of this iMac but, speculations point to new accessories coming with USB-C this time, given the recent EU mandates. We’ll just have to wait and see what big surprises Apple has in store this October.
