Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Ultra: Now Official

Xiaomi debuts its latest Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Ultra at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 held at Barcelona. The brand’s latest flagship phones all sport top-tier specs, a striking design, and the brand’s latest HyperOS system and UI skin overlay.

Like with other flagship releases, both phones will be bringing in big upgrades from their predecessors, while also packing in some new tech to help them stand out in the highly competitive flagship market.

Going all in on mobile photography and camera specs

Androids appear to be leveraging certain aspects in order to stand out, whether its gaming like the Redmagic phones or AI in the case of the Galaxy S24. For this year, Xiaomi has opted to go all-in with their cameras, leveraging a partnership with Leica in order to deliver impeccable photography hardware.

The Xiaomi 14 for example comes with an impressive 50 MP triple-camera array for a more balanced approach to the megapixel wars. So that’s a 50 MP main camera, a 50 MP telephoto capable of 3.2x optical zoom, and a 50 MP ultrawide. The selfie camera is 32 MP, which should deliver some really good self-portraits.

But if you want to really go nuts on camera tech though, check out the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. You get bumped up to a quad 50 MP camera array. Its main camera is a 50 MP Sony LYT-900; a 1-inch sensor with a variable aperture ranging from f/1.63 to f/4.0. In other words, you get wider customization for how you want your shots to look.

The other three are similar to the base Xiaomi 14 with the 50 MP 3.2x telephoto, a 50 MP ultrawide, and a 50 MP periscope telephoto with 5x optical zoom. Same 32 MP selfie camera too. All the rear cameras are located on this disc-shaped camera island which does remind us of a digital camera when viewed in horizontal position. Even the Leica branding is horizontal, adding to the illusion.

Embrace the inner photographer with the Leica Pro Kit!

If those specs and even look isn’t quite enough for you though, Xiaomi’s also selling a separate Leica Pro Kit for the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. This is a grip that will connect with your phone via the USB-C port, completing the experience. From there, you get dedicated buttons to control the shutter, record video, and even wheels to physically toggle through settings like aperture, ISO, and more!

It even packs its own battery, which can help juice up your phone should it fall below a certain point. And yes, you get your choice of white or black colors for this rather unique smartphone add-on.

Top-tier flagship specs all around

These Xiaomi flagships will sport the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor so you can expect great performance and efficiency across many apps and games. The display is a fast 120Hz LTPO AMOLED with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support. Only the Xiaomi 14 Ultra gets 1440p however.

Both phones also come with fast 90W wired charging as well as wireless charging (50W for the Xiaomi 14, 80W for Xiaomi 14 Ultra). Both even get upgraded USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports for even faster transfer speeds, even when compared to its predecessor, the Xiaomi 13.

The Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Ultra are both slated to be officially released here in the Philippines on February 29, 2024. There’s also a Xiaomi 14 Pro but according to most sources, it’s not releasing outside of China.
